Go Gym is live - and a thank you to everyone who tested it
Go Gym is out now on iPhone and Android in the UK. What it does, what it costs, and a proper thank you to the beta testers who shaped it.
Go Gym is live. As of today it's on the App Store and Google Play, free to download, for anyone! Workouts, food, weight and habits in one app, which is the thing I've wanted on my own phone for years.
I'll keep this short, because the most useful thing you can do with a launch post is stop reading it and go and try the app. But a few things need saying first.
Thank you to the beta testers
Go Gym went through an alpha in June and a beta from July, and a group of you used it on real phones for weeks - logging actual meals, actual sessions and actual weigh-ins, then telling me what was broken or annoying. A lot of what's in today's version exists because a tester said so.
Building this on my own, around a day job, would have produced a worse app without you. Thank you. If you were in the beta, your account and all your data carry straight over - just update the app.
What's in it today
- Workouts - log sets and reps, and see your strength move over time.
- Food - barcode scanning, saved meals, calories and macros. Scanning is free.
- Trackables - daily weigh-ins with a weekly trend average, so one salty dinner doesn't ruin your morning.
- Habits - the small daily stuff, with streaks. A dog walk counts.
What it costs
It's free. There are ads, and there's a subscription that removes them. That's all the subscription does - no feature is locked behind it, and your own history never will be.
What it isn't, yet
It's a phone app - there's no web version today. It's not finished either; version one is the start. I'll keep posting what ships here on the blog, and the feedback button in the app comes straight to me. I have some great ideas for this coming year so do keep checking back!
